MHSS is an intensive, home-based service designed to help individuals achieve independence and stability within their community. Available for older adolescents (16+) and adults with long-term mental health needs, cognitive challenges, or dual diagnoses, this program offers support to those striving for a better quality of life.

- Employment
- Money Management
- Self-Care and Daily Living
- Personal Development
- Parenting Skills
Who is Eligible:
- Youth (16+) working toward independence who need life skills training and ongoing support due to mental health issues
- Adults needing support to maintain independence or stability in the community because of mental health diagnoses
- Individuals willing to cooperate with their MHSS worker and commit to at least 5 hours per week in the home or community to support the journey toward independence

MHSS Qualifications
To qualify for Mental Health Skill-Building Services (MHSS), individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Medicaid recipients aged 18 to 70, or 16+ and working toward independence
- Diagnosed with a qualifying mental illness
- Prescribed psychotropic medication within the last 12 months (even if not currently taking it)
- Have been hospitalized for crisis services, TDO, or other intensive mental health services
- Experience significant impairment in major life activities, such as difficulties with daily living skills
- Require skill-building interventions to maintain community stability and independence
- Struggle with interpersonal relationships, social isolation, or recognizing personal danger and inappropriate social behavior
- Have received repeated interventions from mental health services, social services, or the judicial system
